Something Sweet at Gloryhole (Sweet Beats & Diamondback Annie)

1

by thepleasurechest

We can’t wait for Gloryhole! To get you as pumped up as we are, we’ll be giving you sneak peeks of some of the performers in the time leading up to the event. Let’s start with dessert.

SweetBeats

Sweet Beats ice cream truck, featuring DJ Sweet Beats & DJ Potira

We’re so excited to be hosting the Sweet Beats truck again this year. They play music and also give you ice cream.

Sweet Beats is a rhythmic calling spun by DJ Sweet Beats (aka Ginger Marianne Matsuura). Her hypnotic sound is upbeat and will get the crowd dancing with a mix of genres from disco, funk, house, old school, and hip-hop.

The origins of DJ Sweet Beats are humble, but also true to the belief that good music should be shared and not confined to one place. Remembering the delightful sounds of an ice-cream truck blasting through the neighborhood and the promise for something sweet, she wanted to capture the same anticipation and delight when the source of that music was revealed. From that sense of nostalgia, the Sweet Beats truck was born.

DJPotira

Blending eclectic Brazilian beats with urban underground cultures, DJ Potira believes the natural fit of all different types of music, and her Brazilian background help her read any audience, whether it’s to get a venue jumping or to set the mood to an art gallery cocktail reception, this skill has allowed her to spin at many different venues and shows including events sponsored by Teen Vogue, Elle Magazine, and Chanel.

Potira is known for mixing up a very eclectic set with many genres of music. She has developed her own style, seamlessly blending classic Hip-Hop beats wedged between Samba rhythms and Cuíca Drums.

Diamondback Annie - Soda Jerk 4

If, however, you prefer your ice cream prepared in someone’s jockstrap, Diamondback Annie can help with that.

Rock & roll showgirl Diamondback Annie is America’s most badass burlesque star. Since winning Best Debut at the 2005 Burlesque Hall of Fame competition, she has headlined events worldwide as a solo artist with her signature blend of striptease and arena rock.

Based in Los Angeles, she was a member of The Velvet Hammer – the troupe credited with originating the burlesque revival – and currently performs with the long-running Mexican wrestling and burlesque show Lucha VaVoom.

You’ll be able to find Diamondback Annie at the Lap Dance Roulette Station.

A Less Awful Sex Ed

1

by thepleasurechest

condom banana

Did you get sex ed in school? If so, you’re very lucky if was better than the usual scripts:

Fourth or fifth grade:

“Soon, you will start to grow hair in places. Your body will change in some ways. Do not be afraid. Here are some artfully-depicted naked grown-ups with no genitals. Also, here is some deodorant and/or enormous pads. Never, ever show them to anyone.”

Sixth or seventh grade:

“Here are some diagrams of fetal development.”

High School:

“This is a condom. You should use one if you have sex, except you should not be having sex. If you have sex, you will get lots of deadly infections. Here are some close-up photographs of all of the terrible, horrible, confusing things that will definitely happen to your genitals. Also, do you really think you’re ready to be a parent? Think of your future.

If you’re cringing with the memory of your own sex ed horror story, we suggest washing it down with The Frisky’s list of “10 Things Everyone Should Learn in Sex Ed.” We would love if schools implemented safer sex curricula that focused on empowering students to make informed choices about barriers, partners, and what they actually want to do. Still, even if your main source of sex ed was that one friend who told you that the hymen grows back every time, it’s never too late to learn.

How about you? What do you wish you’d learned? What would you add to a sex ed curriculum?

Porn Without Porn

1

by thepleasurechest

cameron porn

In response to British prime minister David Cameron’s crackdown on internet pornography, freelance ad writers Henrik Düfke and Felipe Montt created Cameron Porn, a collection of “free sex videos: fully adapted to the U.K. porn ban.” (“Porn ban” is not entirely accurate, but these videos are meant to be compatible with the proposed internet content filters.) What this actually entails is an assortment of clips from particularly silly XXX movies, with any sex or nudity ham-handedly edited out. As far as political protests go, it makes for some fun viewing.

Please enjoy “A Handy Electrician” at work, in your living room, at a coffee shop, in a library, or anywhere else where actual porn would be inappropriate.

Do Smaller Balls Make For Better Parents?

0

by thepleasurechest

tomato dick with balls

In a recent study, seventy men from Atlanta were asked to look at pictures of their children while having their brain activity measured by an MRI. They were then asked about their daily involvement in their children’s lives. They also had their balls measured. Apparently, the more involved parents’ brains showed more activity in the area related to nurturing, when confronted with pictures of their kids. They also had smaller balls.

According to the authors of the study, “these results suggest that the biology of human males reflects a trade-off between mating effort and parenting effort.” So, bigger balls equals more semen produced equals caring about sex more equals caring about kids less. Sure. This level of simplification is pretty much par for the course for evolutionary psychology.

Before you jump to any conclusions about testicle size being the be-all and end-all of good parenting, remember that this is a study with a survey size of seventy, which is nowhere near large enough to say anything definitive. (Which is probably all for the best, since larger studies are just a bunch of Lotharios who don’t care about their offspring.)
