by Chelsea

UPDATE: CONGRATS TO ROGENO, OUR WINNER!

Can you believe it’s already October?! The weather is getting colder, the days are getting shorter, and it’s time to cuddle up and get frisky!

29_0

This week, we’re heating things up with a free We-Vibe Tango!

We-Vibe Tango

It only takes one to Tango when you’ve got the right toy. This elegantly-sculpted, lipstick-shaped vibe conceals a surprisingly strong motor. Tango packs a lot of power for a pocket vibe, delivering four pulsation patterns at four levels of intensity, and can run for up to two hours on a single charge. It’s also body-safe, waterproof, ideal for travel, and can replace the weaker bullets that come with some dildos and harnesses. Plus, this update of one of our favorite toys is USB rechargeable, with an improved charging cap and a low-power alert, so that you know when you need to charge it again.

Want to win? Here’s how: with Halloween just around the corner, we want to hear all about your Halloween sex fails! Share your worst spooky sex fails in the comments to win!

New Toy Review: The We-Vibe Sync

2

by Chelsea

As long time fans of previous iterations of the We-Vibe, we were excited to test drive the brand spanking new We-Vibe Sync. Like the 4 Plus, this new model comes with everything we love plus new additions. We gave the toy to one of our resident sex specialists to review, and here’s what they thought:

20625_big

Okay folks, I’ll be honest: I own the We-Vibe 4 Plus, but it’s hardly the MVP of my toy chest. I love the deep rumbly vibrations and the shape, but using it with a partner has always been somewhat of a struggle. The external arm would keep slipping off of my clit, and the toy would often pop out when my bae and I really started thrusting. It’s fun for every once in a while, but not really our go-to toy. In the name of science, I recruited my sexy lab partner and we set out to test drive the Sync.

Well, the We-Vibe Sync changes the game and then some. It has everything I love about the O.G. We-Vibe: soft silky silicone, two rumbly motors, a remote control and app capability. I also love the aqua color, as well as the elegant new packaging the toy comes in. But we NEED to talk about the adjustable fit.

adj

These two adjustable points make a world of difference and turn the Sync into an entirely new toy. With the adjustable shape, you can open up the toy and place it under your chin for some extra vibration during oral sex. The added flexibility of the toy makes for great solo fun and mutual masturbation in a way that previous versions of the We-Vibe didn’t quite deliver for me. We paired the Sync with the We-Connect app, which lets you control your toy from anywhere in the world. You can program and save your own vibration patterns, vibe to music with “Beat Mode” or use “Touch Mode” for real-time control. It’s like Pokemon Go for your pussy! I just hope we don’t find any more Rattatas in my bedroom, it’s a real boner killer.

This is all fun, but the million dollar question is: does it hold up during intercourse? I popped in the Sync and immediately noticed the difference. After trying it on a couple of different adjustments (for science!) I found that I most enjoyed the setting where the vibe was hugging my clit and my G-Spot the tightest. Every time my lab partner thrusted, I could feel the intense rumbly vibrations against my G-Spot and he could feel them along his shaft. Because of the tighter fit, the Sync STAYED IN PLACE throughout position switches and vigorous sex. Game. Changer. With these added two points of articulation, those old We-Vibe problems that used to plague us were solved. Congrats We-Vibe Sync: you’ve earned your rightful place in the top shelf of my toy chest!

The PC Interview with Brandon B.

0

by Chelsea

With SHE NY just around the corner, we decided to sit down with some of our favorite educators to get their thoughts on sex education, New York, and the life of a sex educator. Today, we’re chatting with our very own Brandon B.!

brandon_b

Brandon B. is a sex educator, writer, and performer living in Brooklyn, New York. Originally from Los Angeles, Brandon has performed and taught at various venues, colleges, and industry events across the nation for over a decade. As Manager of The Pleasure Chest’s West Village location, he eagerly seeks out new, creative, and fun ways to spread sex education to the masses while supporting local sex-positive artists & performers along the way.

PLEASURE CHEST: Did you have Sex Ed in your school growing up? What was it like?

BRANDON B: Sex Ed in school growing up was very minimal, and pretty much what you’d expect to be the standard type of education that someone growing up in the 90’s in Los Angeles might receive — in 4th grade we had a day where they showed an optional video in the cafeteria to students (my dad signed the letter asking that I not be allowed to attend), and then in high school there was an elective class called Health that covered things such as pregnancy prevention, condoms, transmittable diseases & infections. I didn’t think anything they were covering was very interesting as a teenage gay boy, so I instead took electives such as Theater, Philosophy, Thanatology, Poetry, Music Theory, etc. So I don’t know what it was like, I didn’t get any!

PC: When did you get a proper sex education?

BB: Well that’s the funny thing – although my dad did not think that it was the place of the school to be educating me in 4th grade about sex and thus forbidding me from attending what I’m sure was a highly interesting sex ed video screening from the 70’s, he never actually sat me down and talked with me about sex. The one day that he tried was basically “don’t have sex” sparked by fears when he discovered some WAV files on my computer that I would use in the AOL chat rooms. One specifically was of someone mocking Donald Duck’s voice getting a blowjob (it was called duckjob! How do I still remember that!?), which I thought was hilarious, whereas he found it concerning.

I had to really seek out my own resources when it came to educating myself about gay sex and sexuality, a lot of which unfortunately resulted in a lot of trial and error, so to speak. I made a lot of unwise choices in my sex life after leaving home when I was 18, mostly because nobody had ever told me what to do vs what not to do. Leaving home when you’re gay at 18 is a lot like starting life and growing up all over again in some respects, except this time around you have to be both the child and your own parent. I’m lucky that I befriended a lot of older gays who kind of acted like my “teachers” and neo-parents regarding what’s-what in the world of being gay.

PC: What do you love most about your job? Any funny stories you want to share?

BB: I definitely love that I get to work alongside like-minded people. My co-workers are all so smart, interesting and funny! As far as customers go, it’s really unique to be able to work in a retail environment and have conversations with people on such personal topics. Helping to assist people with navigating their desires, knowing that they are trusting me – a complete stranger – with their personal information, is a responsibility that I don’t take lightly.

There are some silly moments that happen from time to time. I had a customer once who was shopping for a friend of his. I asked something like “Are you familiar with anything that your friend has tried in the past that they liked, what are their interests,” etc. I was referring to sexually, but he interpreted the question as “in general,” and so his answer to “What is your friend into?” was “Civil rights.” And me being me, I had this VERY brief moment of just accepting his answer and immediately started to process the information and think “Hmm what kind toys would be good for someone who likes civil rig—wait a minute!”

PC: What’s your favorite workshop to teach and why?

BB: I’m probably most well known for my blowjob classes. Blowjobs & Beyond and the advanced classes are so fun to teach because they draw such a large, lively crowd. Everyone is having a blast and the energy is really exciting. When you have an enthusiastic crowd like that you can really let loose and have fun with the material – my classes turn into part educational and part stand up comedy, which I think helps make the information just that much more accessible to people in attendance.

PC: If you could go back in time and talk to teenage Brandon, what kind of sex advice would you give him?

BB: “Spit is not lube, don’t try it! Just don’t! Sincerely, your future ass — traveling back in time with post apocalyptic cautionary tales.”

PC: What do you think makes NYC sexy?

BB: Well I can’t drive, so the MTA definitely makes people more accessible to me than it did back when I lived in LA. Otherwise, there is just always SO much going on and so much to do, it’s really not difficult to plan different types of fun and exciting dates. It’s also such a transient city, people are always coming and going so you have the chance to meet people from all over the world with interesting stories.

The PC Interview with Dr. Jess

0

by Chelsea

With SHE NY just around the corner, we decided to sit down with some of our favorite educators to get their thoughts on sex education, New York, and the life of a sex educator. Today, we’re chatting with Dr. Jess O’Reilly, PhD, Astroglide’s Resident Sexologist!

web_jess_nicole_lapierre_photography-46

Celebrity sexologist Dr. Jessica O’Reilly (aka Dr. Jess, PhD) is a best-selling author, speaker, and the host of PlayboyTV’s Swing. Her advice reaches millions across the globe and is featured weekly by top media outlets including Cosmopolitan, Women’s Health, Men’s Fitness, Glamour, Entertainment Tonight, ABC Spark, Showtime, and Huffington Post. Corporate and entertainment clients alike flock to Dr. Jess’ events with sold-out audiences stretching from Istanbul and Prague to Albuquerque and Cancun.

PLEASURE CHEST: Did you have Sex Ed in your school growing up? What was it like?

DR. JESS: I had sex ed via the “Fully Alive” Catholic program, but it was highly clinical. For example, I recall learning that an erection involved blood flow to the penis (I think they even used the word tumescence in grade five), but I didn’t know that an erection was the same thing as a boner (which I understood as the penis getting hard). So I learned about the science, but didn’t understand what it looked like in real life. And I definitely didn’t learn about clitoral erections!

I also recall that in eighth grade, one of our art assignments involved creating an anti-abortion poster. If I recall correctly, I was assigned a zero for that assignment, which was tough for me because I was not generally a rebel.

In high school, we learned a bit about various contraceptive methods, but our teacher (who reminded us that she was still a “virgin” in her fifties) was highly focused on abstinence as the only moral option. Their methods were so outdated that all of the role play scenarios (in which we were taught to rebuff the sexual advances of boys) involved drive-ins and roller skate rinks. This was the late 90’s!

PC: When did you get a proper sex education?

DJ: Like most teens, I sought my own education. I had a sexual relationship with my boyfriend starting in grade nine and he had older sisters who encouraged him to take me to the health station for birth control pills and condoms. We used both religiously at first. I suppose I did a lot of learning on my own. In the 90’s, you had to read magazines like Redbook and the ones with the super glossy covers to get sex advice because the more mainstream ones didn’t cover the topic in-depth.

PC: What are you hoping folks will take away from your SHE NY workshop? What does this topic mean to you?

DJ: I hope they feel better about their sex lives and experience a boost in confidence. We know from research in business that confidence is as important (and often more important) than competence, so I hope they walk away with both.

PC: What is one sex fact/tip that you wish more folks knew?

DJ: It’s okay if your sexual desires and your political/personal identity don’t always align. You can be a radical feminist who likes to submit to alpha males in the bedroom. Your sex life need not detract from your political/personal values.

PC: Do you remember your first trip to a sex store? What was it like?

DJ: I don’t remember my first trip to a sex store, but I do remember my first set of sex toys. I was working at the Sexual Education and Peer Counselling Centre at the University of Toronto and we were offered toys at wholesale prices. I had to fill out two full purchase forms to complete my order and I had the chance to try toys of every shape, size, speed and material. I had boxes of toys when I was in school. This was the late 90’s and toys have certainly come a long way since then. Now I’m more of a minimalist sticking with a few good quality favourites.

PC: What do you think makes NYC sexy?

DJ: New York offers something for everyone and because of the large population, you are lucky to be exposed to all types of people. This is a very good thing in terms of learning, empathy, support, acceptance and allyship. When it comes to dating, sex and relationships, the possibilities are endless and I believe the broad exposure has a normalizing effect that encourages residents (and visitors) to explore and express their sexuality with fewer restrictions.
