Study Finds Funny People Have Sex Appeal

Here’s good news for our comedian friends. Psychologists at Stirling University in the UK have found that funny guys are perceived as more attractive. The researchers interviewed men and women, asking what items they’d bring to a desert island, and then played the recordings for another group of subjects.

Men who were funnier in their answers were judged to be more attractive by the opposite sex, particularly when being judged for their potential as a short-term lover rather than a long-term partner.

Humour is interpreted as a form of flirtatiousness, researchers explained, and is especially attractive for a brief liaison because it “nurtures an impression of not being serious or willing to invest in a mate”.

So while having a sense of humor might help you get laid, it may also send the message that you’re not serious relationship material. There’s also (sorta) good news  for funny women. The men in the study found them more attractive, “‘because a woman’s humour is taken as a sign that “she will be receptive to his advances.’”

So, if you’re in the mood for a spring fling, maybe you should ditch the bar scene and come to one of our Performance Anxiety comedy nights.
