Dildo Misadventures

dildo disasters

We’ve already raved about Oh Joy Sex Toy, Erika Moen’s sex toy review comic, and we particularly enjoyed the latest installment: Amanda Lafrenais’s lessons in dealing with dildos. Lafrenais shares her own mortifying sex toy stories, each with a moral. We learned, for example, one reason why it’s important to take the batteries out of a toy before you throw it away.

Is This The Year’s Worst Sex?

sex in space

The winner (“winner”) of the annual Bad Sex in Fiction award has been announced! Manil Suri takes it with his novel, The City of Devi, and this description:

“Surely supernovas explode that instant, somewhere, in some galaxy. The hut vanishes, and with it the sea and the sands – only Karun’s body, locked with mine, remains. We streak like superheroes past suns and solar systems, we dive through shoals of quarks and atomic nuclei. In celebration of our breakthrough fourth star, statisticians the world over rejoice.”

Given that erotica is ineligible for the coveted (or not) award, have you read a worse sex scene this year?

The Saddest Dildo in the World

You guys, this is the magic of cinema. The addition of a soundtrack turns this video of a dildo riding a baggage claim carousel into a heart-rending meditation on alienation, ennui, and fear of mediocrity.

Or, hey, it’s a dildo riding a baggage claim carousel. Still good!

Oh Joy Sex Toy!

We’re loving Oh Joy Sex Toy, Erika Moen’s series of sex toy reviews in comic form.

oh joy sex toy i'll draw them

She and her husband review the toys and then she writes and draws very thorough reviews that incorporate their personal experiences with the toys, recommendations for who might enjoy them, and demonstrations by fictional “masturbateers.”

We really liked her review of the Lelo Ina 2, which she recommends to people who like rabbit style toys, even though they’re not her cup of tea.

Informed, adorable comics about sex toys: what’s not to love?

Director Carlos Batts Passes Away

carlos batts and april flores 2

We are sad to report that director and photographer Carlos Batts passed away on Tuesday night. Batt’s longtime collaboration with his wife April Flores produced several acclaimed adult films and, earlier this year, a book of photography called Fat Girl, for the release of which they were invited to speak at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Said Flores, “I think Carlos impacted people in a positive way by including all different body types, ethnicities and gender representation and really focusing on the art of each project and always staying true to his artistic vision.”

Batts’ obituary can be found on XBIZ.
