Too Sexy for Social Media?Tell Us & Win a Vibratex Rabbit Habit(Updated- 3/18)

by thepleasurechest

UPDATE: Congratulations to MSCVS who was randomly selected to win the Rabbit Habbit. Also, congratulations to Crystal Claire for submitted our favorite answer in this contest. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories with us. The next contest will be posted on Pinterest tomorrow!

Yesterday, we posted this image of the Vibratex Rabbit Habit on Instagram and asked our followers to “like” the photo for a chance to win the toy. Unfortunately, Instagram flagged the photo and removed it, claiming it violated their community standards. We’re surprised, since there’s no nudity in the photo, and there’s nothing terribly “realistic” about its design.

So we’ve moved the giveaway here, to our blog, where no photo is too dirty for publication.

How to win the Vibratex Rabbit Habit

Want to win the toy that’s too naughty for Instagram? Here’s how.

Post a comment below and tell us if you’ve ever had a photo or other content removed from a social media site (Facebook, Myspace, Instagram, Pinterest, Flickr, etc.) for being too sexy.

If your record is squeaky clean, that’s fine too. We want to hear how you managed to stay out of trouble.

On Monday, March 18th, we’ll award a Rabbit Habit to one person at random. We’ll also give a $20 Pleasure Chest gift card to the person with the best story to tell.

Good luck and thanks for sharing!

Salon on the Sex Toy Revolution

0

by thepleasurechest

This past weekend, Salon ran an interesting piece on the explosive popularity of sex toys. The article links this development to the phenomenal success of the Fifty Shades book series, but also to a number of high profile media appearances for The Pleasure Chest.

Salon mentions Kathy Griffin’s recent segment filmed at our West Hollywood store and her subsequent interview with Jay Leno on The Tonight Show. Griffin’s segments followed Pleasure Chest appearances on Our America with Lisa Ling and Starter Wives.

Salon suggests that America is in the midst of a fourth sexual revolution, following past cultural upheavals in the 1840s, the 1920s and the 1960.

“Sex 4.0 is grounded in a legal and cultural belief that consenting adults have a right to privacy … and to pleasure. This is adult – consensual and noncommercial — sex after Roe v. Wade in ’73, after AIDS and safe sex, and after Lawrence v. Texas in 2003. Equally critical, it is sex after the wide-scale adoption of the Internet and smartphones that revolutionized communications, including pornography.”

Does Size Matter to the TSA?

1

by thepleasurechest

When travelling with sex toys in your carry-on bag, does size matter? After reading this piece in NY Mag, we’re still not sure. They quote a New York Post article which says:

“The TSA acknowledges that there’s nothing illegal about traveling with the devices. Vibrators and dildos are OK in carry-ons, as long as they’re under 7 inches long, TSA rules say.”

But when NY Mag contacted the TSA for clarification, the spokesperson said there was no 7″ rule. So which is it? We’ve had our own frustrations trying to get answers from the TSA (We’re still waiting). The author suggests packing toys that feature a travel lock, so they don’t activate in your bag and trigger a bomb scare. And we know for a fact that the Njoy Eleven is considered a no-no.

Until we get straight answers, we’re going to assume that there’s always a risk of public embarrassment when traveling with sex toys. Luckily, some folks are into that sort of thing.

We-Vibe Goes Mainstream

0

by thepleasurechest

Makers of the We-Vibe have announced that you’ll soon be able to buy the innovative couples’ toy in drugstores.

“I don’t see why it wouldn’t be looked at in the same wholesome category” as other upscale drugstore consumer electronics, said Danny Osadca, CEO of Standard Innovation, the Ottawa-based company that makes the We-Vibe.

This is yet another sign that adult toys are going mainstream, as Americans embrace products like the We-Vibe as part of a healthy and fulfilling sex life. The article also mentions that We-Vibe is expanding into previously untapped markets in Russia and South America. Will we see more adult toys on drug store shelves soon?

UPDATE: Congratulations to the following folks who were randomly selected to win prizes from Vibratex:

Keep an eye on this blog and on Twitter for more Vibratex giveaways this month!

This month, we’ve partnered with legendary toymaker Vibratex to highlight some of their best products. You probably know Vibratex as the creators of the original Rabbit Pearl vibrator, featured on Sex & the City. This is the episode that helped put vibrators (and us) on the pop culture map.

But did you know they’re also the distributors of the powerful and ever-popular Hitachi Magic Wand? For people who crave strong vibration, the Hitachi is widely considered the gold standard in adult toys. Vibratex also makes male masturbation sleeves like the Maven and the Sidekick and a thrilling variety of dual stimulation vibes including the Sugar Pop and the Budding Bliss. They’ve even created rechargeable versions of the magic wand for folks who don’t like to be tethered to a wall socket while they play.

Win a Vibratex Toy

Which Vibratex toy would you like to call your own? Take a look at your choices and post a comment telling us which toy you want and why. On Thursday, March 7th, we’ll pick three folks at random to win the toy they want.

It’s that simple. Good luck!

Is 3D Printing the Future of Sex Toys

0

by thepleasurechest

If you’ve been following technology news, you’ve probably heard about 3D printing, a process that turns digital models into solid, three-dimensional objects. In recent months, the media has reported on everything from 3D printed tools and guns to livers, ears and entire houses.

Adult industry site Xbiz recently polled members about the future of 3D printing and the adult toy industry. They asked  “Will 3D printing revolutionize sex toys similar to VHS’ impact on adult movies?” As of last week, the responses were pretty divided with 37% saying “Yes,” 29 percent answering “No,” and 34% responding that they are unaware of 3D printing technology.

Nobody asked us, but we’re confident that 3D printing is an exciting new development that holds promise for adult toys. Last November, the company 3DEA opened a pop-up shop in New York allowing customers to make a personalized silicone replica of their own penises. The price was $250, more expensive than the trusty DIY “Clone a Willy” kits we sell, but the whole process sounds fascinating and the results are pretty cool. Unfortunately the 3DEA pop-up shop has closed and we don’t know when they’ll pop-up next.

The 3D printed Velv’Or J’Naja

In the meantime, if you’re curious about this technology, the Velv’Or J’Naja is a nifty cock ring, made of nylon-fiber and produced on a 3D printer. Is this the shape of things to come?

The Polar Cub Electric Vibrator. The Vibra King Activator. The Niagara Hand Unit.

These are just a few of the fascinating precursors to the modern day vibrators you’ll find in an adult boutique. Over on Nerve, you can check out some great photos of these vintage vibes, which were once marketed to cure “hysteria” in women.

On Valentine’s Day, the Museum of Sex introduced New York City to the Fun Factory Stronic, a remarkable new toy. Don’t call it a vibrator. It’s a Pulsator!

Over on our How To blog, we just posted a great video of the event, including an interview with our own Brandon B, singing the Stronic’s praises. But we can think of no better demonstration of this unique toy than the short clip above. Place your bets!
