Much lighter than stainless steel, this plastic is EXTREMELY prickly and great for taking to parties or traveling, especially if you are wary of losing your prized toys! Because it is a light plastic, it might chip over time, but it is meant to be replaced, and at $3/piece, is fairly replaceable. As with all impact/sensory/sharp toys, always test on yourself before using on a play partner.
