If you were to do a quick search on the different types of orgasms our bodies are capable of, you would come across a vast array of lists with names of orgasms you may or may not have heard of: coregasms, multiple orgasms, erogenous orgasms, and blended orgasms just to name a few.
“The 12 Types of Orgasms,” “Orgasms Come in Three Distinct Styles,” “24 Types of Orgasms and How to Achieve Them” are just some of the many articles I came across when doing research on all the different types of orgasms. On the one hand, it’s exciting to know that so many types of orgasms are there for the taking and that our bodies can experience so many versions of something that feels amazing, offering a range of sexual pleasure!
On the other hand, it makes me wonder if folks feel pressure to make their orgasms ‘better’ in some way—more versatile, less boring, like if you’re not trying to achieve all 400 types of orgasms, then it’s not even worth having them at all! And of course, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
The bottom line is, orgasms are about feeling good throughout your entire body! Putting pressure on yourself to achieve a specific kind of orgasm, like sex stimulation for G and P-spot orgasms, is a fun goal, but it’s important to keep it mind that it can prevent you from having one in the first place. With that said, some folks want to explore what their bodies are capable of and see exactly what these little bundles of nerves tucked away inside us can do. And we’re in the business of helping them try!
Some of the most common questions we get from customers are about achieving G and P-spot orgasms. Well, here’s a fun little fact for you: the P-spot and G-spot are actually the same squishy sac of fluid, just organized differently depending on your genitals. And you may be asking, “What does an A-spot have to do with this? Or a C-spot?” Well, let’s break down what each of these little spots are and how to stimulate them.
A, C, G and P-Spot Orgasms Explained: A-spot Orgasms
What is the A-spot?
The A-spot is located deep inside the vagina along the front vaginal wall and sits between the cervix and the bladder, about 2 inches higher than the G-spot. It’s also known as the anterior fornix erogenous zone. Some folks confuse the A and G-spot with each other because they’re so close together, but they’re two different erogenous zones! Only cisgender women and people assigned female at birth have an A-spot.
It sometimes is called ‘the female prostate’ due to its similar placement to the P-spot in folks assigned male at birth. When the A-spot is stimulated, blood flow increases and there’s a dramatic increase in vaginal lubrication. It was ‘discovered’ in 1997 during an experiment in which a group of vulva owners had this bundle of nerves repeatedly stroked for 10-15 minutes. Over 60% experienced an increase in vaginal lubrication and 15% of the group reached orgasm due to the stimulation. Because stimulating the A-spot directly causes an abundance of lubrication in most cases, it’s worth noting that A-spot stimulation could help folks who experience painful sex or frequent dryness.
How do I stimulate the A-spot?
There are a few different ways you can stimulate the A-spot, and because every body is different, we recommend you try out a few methods to find what works best for you. The most common way to stimulate the A-spot is via penetration with fingers, a partner or a sex toy. Keep in mind that fingers may be too short to reach the A-spot depending on the position you’re in, so try positions that allow you or your partner to reach deeper or use position aids like wedge pillows to help.
Position Recommendations for A-spot Stimulation
Any position that allows for deep penetration will work for A-spot stimulation, so choose what you prefer and makes you the most comfortable.
- Missionary: lie down on your back and place a wedge or pillow under your hips, then pull your knees to your chest for even deeper penetration.
- Doggy: position yourself on all fours with the toy or your partner behind you, then rock your hips back to allow for deeper penetration.
- Cow: straddle your partner or a toy and rock back and forth until you can find a deep and comfortable angle to hit the A-spot.
Both Doggy and Cow positions allow you to have more control over the depth and speed of stimulation, so we’d recommend trying those first. Also, side note for anal enthusiasts: anal play has the benefit of stimulating the A-spot from within the anal cavity (essentially, on the other side of the wall). Using an anal toy paired with vaginal penetration could allow you to achieve A-spot stimulation very easily!
Toy Recommendations for A-spot Stimulation
We recommend a non-vibrating internal wand made of a firm material like stainless steel or glass to apply equal pressure across the full area of the A-spot. If you prefer vibration, a longer-length internal vibrator with a slight curve and little to no flexibility will be your best bet. Pressure and a consistent pattern of movement will be key for achieving an A-spot orgasm, and these shapes will deliver the best results.
A, C, G and P-Spot Orgasms Explained: C-spot Orgasms
What is the C-spot?
Sometimes the C-spot simply refers to the clitoris, but it can also refer to the cervix, with C-spot orgasms being cervical orgasms (which is what we'll detail here). If you don’t have a cervix, you will not be able to have a C-spot orgasm. These types of orgasms can be difficult to achieve due to the placement of the cervix—it’s the highest up in the vaginal canal, past the G-spot and A-spot. To reach it, you’ll need something longer than fingers or a standard insertable toy. Deep penetration is the name of the game here!
Cervical orgasms are also one of the more elusive kinds of orgasms because the cervix can be higher, lower, more open or more closed depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle. It may take some trial and error to find the perfect window.
How do I stimulate the C-spot?
To stimulate the C-spot, it’s recommended that you wait for your cervix to be lower and more open so it’s easier to reach, and that time is typically right before or during menstruation. Also, similarly to A-spot stimulation, you want to opt for positions and toys that allow for deep penetration. Pressure is also key here, just like for achieving A-spot orgasms. Using a combination of pressure and repetitive stimulation (like vibration) on the nerves surrounding the C-spot can result in a cervical intense orgasm. C-spot orgasms are described as intense and full-body orgasms because the nerves around the C-spot are distributed widely throughout the pelvis.
Keep in mind that not everyone will enjoy stimulation on and around the C-spot. For some folks it can be quite painful (especially, as stated before, depending on if the cervix is more closed and higher up). If you’re interested in experimenting, take it slow and try stimulating the C-spot when you’re already close to orgasm so your body is more relaxed.
Position Recommendations for C-spot Stimulation
Missionary: because a lot of external stimulation is recommended first for ‘warming up’ to C-spot stimulation, lying on your back and using clitoral toys first is the easiest way to start. Like for A-spot stimulation, you can use a wedge or pillow and bring your knees up to your chest to get into deeper penetration later on.
- Doggy: from behind, have you or a partner slowly insert a toy. Once you get more comfortable, lower yourself from all-fours to bringing your arms and face down so just your butt is in the air (‘face down, ass up’ as the experts say). This will allow for deeper penetration and for your hands to be free to reach back and use toys externally as well.
- Cow: Again, like A-spot stimulation, the cow (aka ‘cowgirl’) lets you have control over exactly how deep the penetration goes. This position is great for folks who are a little intimidated by C-spot stimulation and are apprehensive that it might be painful. You can take it nice and slow with this position and use your hands to use external toys to help keep you relaxed.
Toy Recommendations for C-spot Stimulation
To target the C-spot orgasm, we recommend toys similar to the ones recommended for A-spot stimulation, but with more length and texture. The extra length will help reach the extra few inches toward the C-spot and the texture will help stimulate the surrounding nerves, spreading the pleasure out across the entire pelvis (vibration will help with this too, but we have both vibrating and non-vibration options depending on what you like best). Firmness in toys will depend on your personal preference, but the more firm the material is, the easier it will be to apply your desired amount of pressure on the C-spot.
A, C, G and P-Spot Orgasms Explained: G-spot Orgasms
What is the G-spot?
The term G-spot orgasm (previously known as the Gräfenberg spot) was first published by Dr. Beverly Whipple in 1981 in her cast study on female ejaculation. It can be found about 2-3 inches inside the inner front wall of the vagina, but the placement varies from person to person. It’s characterized as a slightly rough and squishy sac of fluid that fills when aroused and, after consistent stimulation via pressure and ‘come hither’ motions, can potentially trigger female ejaculation, though that is not always the case. Only about 10% of folks can achieve multiple orgasms from targeted G-spot stimulation or from penetration alone, making the G-spot ever more mysterious.
It was found as recently as 2012 that the G-spot is not its own piece of anatomy; it’s actually part of the entire clitoral network (which, fun fact, also includes the A-spot!). So, technically, a G-spot orgasm is still a clitoral orgasm, just induced from a different part of the genitals!
How do I stimulate the G-spot?
Because the G-spot is not as far inside the vagina as the A and C-spots, you can easily reach it with fingers and smaller insertable toys. To stimulate the G-spot, insert your fingers (palm side up) or a small toy with a curve (curve side up) until you feel the bundle of nerves, which is a little more firm and rougher in texture than the surrounding tissue. Then, do a ‘come hither’ motion, repeatedly pressing into the G-spot from underneath or in front of it with fingers or the toy. You can continue this motion and experiment with different types of motion and let the pleasure build up, or you can switch off between clitoral and G-spot stimulation. You can also indulge in both kinds of stimulation at the same time to get a full-body experience and possibly achieve what is called a ‘blended’ orgasm (when you have two different types of orgasms at once, in this case, clitoral and G-spot).
Position Recommendations for G-spot Stimulation
- Reverse Cow: allowing your partner to enter you from behind will put more pressure on the G-spot since it sits on the front wall of the vagina. You can do the same with a toy by holding it in place (or suctioning it to a surface) and sitting back on it.
- Doggy: similar to Reverse Cow, the Doggy position can allow for more pressure to be put on the G-spot, especially if the ‘giving’ partner is standing and able to use more leverage for a mind blowing orgasm.
- Spooning: like both Reverse Cow and Doggy, but a little more intimate and slow, if you’d prefer to take your time building up the pleasure.
Toy Recommendations for G-spot Stimulation
Just like A and C-spot stimulation, pressure is key for G-spot toys, too. Vibration is not necessary but can help relax your body by providing stimulation externally as well as on the internal nerves surrounding the G-spot. You can also use a dual-stimulating toy (sometimes called ‘rabbit vibrators) to get both clitoral and G-spot stimulation at the same time. Experiencing clitoral stimulation at the same time as G-spot stimulation can add a level of intensity that makes the orgasm and pleasure in general feel all-encompassing.
A, C, G and P-Spot Orgasms Explained: P-spot and Prostate Orgasms
What is the P-spot?
The P-spot, also known as the prostate gland or male G-spot, is a walnut-sized gland that produces much of the seminal fluid that makes up ejaculation. Where is the male G-spot? It sits under the bladder and surrounds the top part of the urethra. When aroused, the P-spot swells and fills with fluid. Cisgender men and people assigned male at birth are the only ones who have P-spots.
Many find that putting pressure either directly or indirectly on the P-spot leads to more powerful prostate orgasms, probably due to the large number of nerve endings on and around the prostate.
How do I stimulate the P-spot?
You can stimulate the prostate internally on the bundle of nerves itself or from the outside on the perineum (located between the anus and testicles). For either one, you can use fingers, anal toys, prostate massagers or a partner for anal play.
For external stimulation, you can press fingers, a tongue or vibrator along the perineum, applying light pressure. The sensations along the perineum will travel internally and hit the prostate in an indirect way without having to insert anything, a technique often referred to as prostate milking. This is a great option for folks who don’t wish to insert anything or are slowly working up to it.
The prostate is only about 2 inches inside the rectum, so you can use fingers or even a small vibrator (with a base!) for an internal prostate massage. The P-spot is commonly stimulated in a similar way to the G-spot, using pressure and a ‘come hither’ motion.
For any internal stimulation, make sure you apply lubricant first and move at a slow pace. Then insert fingers or an anal toy (prostate massage device) and feel around until you feel the rounded bulb of tissue. Start to apply light pressure with a ‘come hither’ motion against the prostate, repeating the motion, gradually increasing the amount of pressure you’re applying.
In prostate play, it takes longer for the anus to relax and acclimate to insertion than a vagina, so don’t be discouraged if it takes longer than you’d think to get comfortable. Just take your time and enjoy exploring!
Position Recommendations for Prostate Stimulation
- Doggy: get down on all fours and reach behind to insert fingers or a toy, or have a partner behind you stimulating the prostate. For even deeper penetration, move from being on all fours to a facedown position.
- On the side: lay on your side and bring one leg up to your chest, then reach behind with your fingers or a toy or have a partner laying on their side behind you. This position won’t allow you to get quite as deep but it’s a more comfortable position and will help keep your body relaxed.
- Lying on your stomach: this position would be difficult if you’re experimenting solo, but works great with a partner. You don’t have to concentrate on holding up your body or staying in position so you can fully relax and focus on the sensations on and around the prostate.
Toy Recommendations for P-spot Stimulation (Prostate Massage)
For prostate stimulation, you want a P-spot massager with a slight curve to it, similar to toys angled for G-spot stimulation. If you were to use your finger to stimulate the prostate, you would insert your finger about 2 inches inside then curve it slightly toward the belly button. For this reason, shorter curved toys are a good place to start until you figure out your preferences. There are P-spot massagers that move on their own and also ones that have wide bases that help stimulate the perineum at the same time. For those seeking prostate induced orgasms or therapeutic prostate massage, just make sure you don't forget the lube!
A, C, G and P-Spot Orgasms Explained: Go forth and explore!
Now you’ve got a good base knowledge to begin exploring these exciting erogenous zones. Keep in mind that, once you get into deeper penetrative stimulation, it may end up not being for you. And that’s okay! At least you tried something new. And most sex toys serve more than one purpose, so if you end up not enjoying a vibrating toy internally, you can still use it externally!
