Love at First Lube: The Ultimate Lube Guide

THIS ENTRY WAS POSTED ON January 1, 2017 BY THEPLEASURECHEST.

Lube, or “Personal Lubricant,” is actually one of the sexiest sex toys there is. The extra slickness allows you to have sex longer without irritation, can increase sensation, and will definitely spice up a ho-hum handjob. There are all kinds of lube to love, and each type has its pros and cons, but this guide will hopefully help you find the slippery sidekick(s) of your dreams.

Water-Based Lube

For the lube novice, water-based lube is a great place to start. They’re easy to clean up, and wash right out of sheets and clothing.

Pros: Works great with latex condoms and a variety of toys, especially silicone toys.

Cons: Water-based lube is highly absorbent, which means it dries out more quickly, so you may have to re-apply/add saliva as needed.

We love Sliquid H20, Good Clean Love, and Sutil.

Body Safe Lube

Love lube, but prone to yeast and urinary tract infections? The culprit could be glycerin, a slippery ingredient that can often throw off a vagina’s pH balance. Glycerin-free lube is also a great option if you prefer something less sticky than your average lube.

Pros: Great for vaginal play and sensitive skin

Cons: Like the water-based lube, it requires re-application as it dries out.

We recommend Good Clean Love, Sliquid Sea and Sliquid Sassy (which is great for anal play).

Hybrid Lube

Hybrid lubes combine the long-lasting qualities of silicone lube with the easy clean-up of water-based lube. Get your swirl on with a hybrid, but be sure to spot-test your silicone toys before using a hybrid to make sure it won’t damage them.

Pros: Best of both worlds! A smooth ride without the requisite stickiness.

Cons: May or may not affect your silicone toys. Taking time to do a spot test is necessary, but often a mood killer.

We’re enjoying Gun Oil Force Recon, as well as Spunk Hybrid Lube and Fuck Water.

Silicone Lube

We can’t say enough good things about silicone lube. The texture is silky and smooth, and silicone is hypoallergenic, which is great for sensitive skin. Because it doesn’t absorb quickly, silicone lasts longer and requires less application. It’s great with latex and most toys, except for silicone.

Pros: Great for anal play and water play. A little goes a long way!

Cons: Silicone lube can degrade silicone toys, so it’s a major no-no to use the two together.

We’re loving Uberlube and you can never go wrong with something from the Pjur line of lubes.

Flavored and Warming Lube

Sliquid Flavored Lube packs

If you’re looking to spice up your BJ game, you might be interested in edible flavored lubes. Or if you’re more into temperature play, you can give warming lubes a whirl, which are especially fun when applied to your nipples.

Pros: Puts a fun twist on oral sex!

Cons: Always spot test, as they could irritate sensitive skin. Also, we’ve tasted some gnarly flavored lubes in our day, so give it a taste test before slathering it all over your body.

Try or the Sliquid Lip Lickers Lube Cube Sampler for some variety. To heat things up, give System JO H2O Warming lube a whirl.

Oil-Based Lube

If you’re looking for a creamier texture, consider giving oil-based lubes a try. These are great for hand jobs and anal sex, as they last a long time. However, since oil degrades latex, these are NOT RECOMMENDED for safe sex.

Pros: Long-lasting, great for anal and water play. A must-have for hand jobs and masturbation.

Cons: Incompatible with latex condoms, hard to wash out of clothes and sheets. Not recommended for vaginal sex, as it could lead to yeast infections.

You can’t go wrong with Coconu, Sliquid Soul, or the perennial classic Boy Butter.
