This is an incredibly comprehensive book covering everything from negotiation, to bondage to play parties. It's an excellent window into old guard sensibilities, & everything about it has the feel of a vintage underground bondage zine, which is very cool. This book looses me in several areas. The authors seem to present their sensibilities not as personal taste, but as universal rules, leaving your reviewer aghast at suggestions such as anal toys without a flare being ok to use as long as they have a retrieval cord (Newsflash! Backdoor toys ALWAYS need a flare!) The book is incredibly heterosexual, & the authors don't even attempt to broach lgbt topics (which have a rich history in kink) except to report their unfamiliarity with those scenes. In my opinion, this book is best used as inspiration, or for knowledge on history, but some of the info is dated or incorrect, & as such, I feel this title would be a great 3rd or 4th book about BDSM. In my opinion, The Ultimate Guide to Kink, How To Be Kinky, or SM101 would be way better books for beginners.
